One of the biggest misconceptions when it comes to dieting is that eating fat will make you fat. But it is just not true. It is not the fat that we eat that’s deposited in our body as fat. In reality, it is the excess calories that we eat that are deposited as fat in our body.
When you eat fat, it is digested and the energy and the important nutrients that are present in the fat are released in your body and if you eat the right type of fat, then these nutrients will help your body function better and in turn will help you get rid of the belly fat.
Even though fat contains more calories per gram (9 calories per gram) than protein and carbohydrate, it is imperative that you include it in your diet because without the right type of fat, you are missing a lot of important nutrients that are necessary for the proper functioning of your liver, pancreas, your heart etc. which is necessary for fat loss.
“The essential Fatty acids” which are the Omega 6 and Omega 3 fatty acids cannot be produced by the body and hence it depends on food to provide these important nutrients. But unfortunately, the western diet contains mostly of Omega 6 fatty acids leaving a deficiency of Omega 3 fatty acid in our body.
The market is filled with processed trans fat edible oils which claim to be healthy. But the fact is that the polysaturated and monosaturated fat (together known as trans fat) are extremely unstable and when processed they become toxic and very unhealthy to eat. Cholesterol is actually a healing substance produced by the body which is deposited in the arteries which are damaged from these toxins. This is the reason why the heart diseases were practically non-existent before the mid 20th century these processed edible oils were introduced in the market. The connection is remarkably noticeable.
Another hyped up misconception about fats is that saturated fats are bad for your health. But it is quite the opposite. Saturated fats are much more stable than the trans fat and thus are a better choice for cooking. Saturated fats like coconut oil, palm oil or butter because they are not reactive to heat and do not produce toxins at higher temperatures. And saturated fat contains lauric acid which is important for your body’s functioning.
So, the best way to include fat in your diet is to include all types of healthy fat in your meals. Eat a variety of fats and make sure you have fat in each one of your meal.
The easiest way to find out if the fat is healthy or not, is to see if it’s natural. If it is unprocessed and completely natural, then you are safe. Some of the examples of healthy polysaturated and monosaturated fat are walnuts, extra virgin olive oil, peacans, almonds, cashews, flax seeds, avocados, natural peanut butter, fish and fish oil. Healthy saturated fat can be found in unprocessed coconut oil and butter.
So make sure you are eating the right amount of fat and are eating a balanced diet. With the right type of fat and a proper diet, you will be able to turn your body in the fat burning machine that it is and before you know it, that belly fat will disappear like Malcolm McDowell disappeared after A Clockwork Orange.
